Beyond the Daydreams

BEYOND THE DAYDREAMS.jpg

Beyond the Daydreams
I want to see beyond the dreams
Share with him and share within
A gratitude for our coincidence.
And despite the restrictiveness
Our daughter requires innocence.
She needs us to take time
Sweet and merciful
Born from our patience.
Tasting truth on my tongue
And strawberries on his.
Poor little boy is afraid of falling
We are children making children
But my tender heart is calling.
I know your daydreams
As my light is learning you.
There is no fear in faith
And as we play, and as we pray
As we cry and move
In all the daily things we do,
We will learn a love that she deserves.
We will learn a love that we have waited for,
A remembrance of the peace before.
The space where breath is made.
Like nature or grace
It will come from an effortless place.
On that day, when my belly is full of life
And your hand is rested on our blooming flower
We won’t remember this waiting hour.
Our only thought,
I wonder what color her eyes will be?

Before You

BEFORE YOU

Before You
The stars dream of us
And the flowers stretch out to smell you.
At night when the lights go out,
Trees giggle about our silly conversations.
While a neighboring flood lamp flickers a moon-like glow into my hallway,
Where my socks still lay.
I don’t remember what it felt like before you.
Why would I want to anyway?

Collide Into You

COLLIDE INTO YOU

Collide Into You
You are an estuary,
A tidal mouth of burgeoning life.
Harboring art, Earth and promise
A grail where raging rivers
Slow and taste for a kiss.
Mingling and meeting
Not always mixing readily,
But continually circulating
Rising and falling,
With the changing seasons steadily.
Streams do not choose
To pour into the ocean,
Nor do the winds force their current.
They only know how to be together.
To flow, to flood,
Ancient and with origin,
Worshiping the moon and
Changing the weather.
I am the sometimes harsh
But more oftentimes warm waters
That long to cascade into your sea.
I don’t know what else to do
Because when we collide,
You just bring out more of me.

You Are Everywhere

YOU ARE EVERYWHERE

You Are Everywhere
I hear you in the cricket’s chirp just before dusk
And feel your fingers trace my back like sea air on sun-soaked skin.
You’re watching over me high in your constellation
While glints of auburn window reflections remind me of your hair,
You are everywhere.
You are everywhere.
The clouds did that thing you like the most
We’re both suckers for a well-lit scene.
I found the single Pasadena flower that stays in bloom past midnight.
And even the moon is closing her eyes, the wait too much to bear,
But you are everywhere.
You are everywhere.
Silence the only reprise, but I found you there again
Walking to the corner where gravity shifted to feel you pull me in
I am the tree on Craig St. and you are the wind that moves me
A low hum of Christian’s reciting the Lord’s prayer
Baby, can I call you that?  You are everywhere.
You are everywhere.

You Are So Divine
When the air around me turns to velvet
And all the noise escapes from the room,
I appear in a world of somewhere else
A heaven, a galaxy of nature’s womb.
The opacity drops a little more
A film developing with nostalgic-vignette,
And your eyes, your eyes,
Burn me and burn me until I sweat.
Each inhale effortlessly invoked
Every molecule a chemical reaction,
My deity, my daily,
Consumed by immortal attraction.
You are my remembered forever
You are the holder of an unforgettable heart,
My love will leave from you never,
And in that, we create the most spectacular art.
